In the Face of Nothing Else
If you can be nothing else,
be kind.
Even if you are forgotten,
and the wild falls apart,
suppose that the flowers will think of you while they wilt;
the bees will carry your sweet song in the pollen;
and the wind will whistle your tune when it rains.
While cruel rapids thunderously shake the tender earth,
let your kindness be wellspring to the flowers.
Never forget,
that you too,
are the sun that rests on the patterned deer’s back.
Never forget,
that I too,
will think of you fondly
while the wildflowers whisper their gossips through tendrils of truth.
Because,
in the face of nothing else,
you stayed kind.
