Ella Singer

growing

Last time I saw you, what was that?
I say I’m fine, but I don’t think that’s fact
cause I made it complicated,
then you made that an understatement
you just don’t know how to hold back
That’s just growing up, I suppose
people don’t stay who you used to know
I used to picture life with you
when we were grown and had kids too
now I get nervous thinking maybe when I’m out I’ll see you
I can’t stop scanning every room
That’s just growing up, I suppose
people don’t stay who you used to know
I’m left with a vacancy
a shame I wish I could concede
but all that’s hiding underneath
is an underlying sense of grief
That’s just growing up, I suppose
people don’t stay who you used to know
that’s just growing up, I suppose
maybe one day you’ll finally know
