There Are Ravens Inside Me
racing across muscle and bone,
flying through ankles,
reaching my hips, striving
towards a throbbing heart
held in webs tightly strung.
each beat of wing burns
away the glycine silk
of dour constraint.
endless clangor;
pounds against breast
inside, inside it
is chaos—
feathers flailing, screeching,
black ink thrashing wings:
vigorous pain
striving for release,
incorruptible power
from within, let
the sarcophagus
be unwed, unburied—
she spits dirt
and flies.
